Meet our PE Teacher - Mrs. Jolayne Clem

Mrs. Clem attended Fresno State University on a full Athletic Scholarship in Basketball. She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Communications. After graduating college, she went back to her High School to Coach the J.V. Girls Basketball team. That sparked an interest and she has continued to coach various ages in basketball. She has coached 2nd and 4th grade boys and 5th - 8th grade girls. She loves working with children in recreational sports and team sports. Mrs. Clem believes that Physical Fitness is very important for youth these days.  She recognizes that just ½ hour of any active activity a day can improve students' concentration in school and improve their health.

Outside of school, she currently plays Softball and Volleyball in a recreational setting. She also loves walking, hiking, skiing, biking, and camping. Her family loves to camp and ride dirt bikes.

She got married after graduation from college to Shaun and then had three children who are very active in recreational sports. Ryan is 11,  is a very good dirt bike rider, and plays football, soccer and basketball. Tyler is 9, loves playing all sports, but excels in soccer and basketball. Kylee is 5, loves riding her bike and playing soccer.

 Physical Education

Our Glenwood physical education program emphasizes the importance of physical activity and personal fitness. Fitness is developed through the activities in the lessons which emphasize high amounts of physical activity, continuous movement, and challenges that involve overloading the major muscle groups. Students are provided with opportunities to understand the fitness components, fitness assessment, and the need for a lifetime of physical activity. Fifth-grade students have their first required experience with the California statewide Physical Fitness Test.

Participation in physical activity also can be an important venue for the social, psychological, and emotional development of children. Social skills and personal responsibility skills are taught and learned with feedback . Physical education classes provide an ideal setting for students to learn and practice appropriate social interactions, suitable ways to express and control emotions, and desirable personal responsibility skills.

PE is not an optional part of a student's day, but a necessary part of the curriculum.  If your child has limitations which may prohibit him/her from participation, please contact our health clerk in the front office so that we may work individually with you.
