Welcome to First Grade!

At Glenwood, the first grade teachers create a learning rich environment.  The teachers strive to meet the individual, academic, and social needs of each student through differentiated instruction.  Teachers guide their students to become self-motivated, responsible, and independent learners while developing decision making and problem solving skills.  Students master the curriculum through a variety of strategies including hands-on science experiments, technology, math manipulatives, and a wide range of reading materials.  The teachers maintain a respectful, supportive, and academically challenging atmosphere.

Homework for first graders is Monday-Thursday, and should take your child approximinately 10 minutes.  In addition, students should read at least 10 minutes each night and study their spelling words.

We encourage all of our first graders to visit the Thousand Oaks Library and get their own library card!
